4 Tips for Maintaining Your LCD/LED Flat Screen TV

If you’re a US resident, chances are good that you have a flat screen television. Flat screens — LCDs and LEDs — account for 80% of all televisions in the country. They are more affordable than ever, but they can still be fragile. Here are some tips for prolonging their life and keeping them from needing repairs.

  • Keep it Dry. Humidity is the enemy of flat screen televisions. Keep yours on a stand or wall that is far away from humid parts of your home, such as bathrooms or laundry rooms.

  • Keep it Clean. You don’t want to let dust build up on or behind your TV, because it can reduce the television’s lifespan. If you leave home for vacation or another extended period of time, unplug the TV and drape a dry cloth over it.
  • Keep it Safe. Be sure to keep your television out of the reach of children and pets. Also, don’t attempt to disassemble the TV to work inside it. Always leave that to the professionals.
